Construction work has started at a new housing location in Ramsey where Bovis Homes is building 100 new homes.
The housebuilder is part of Vistry Group, which acquired the 10-acre site off Wagstaffe Close in March this year.
Detailed plans were approved by Huntingdonshire District Council in April 2022.
This new development in Ramsey, which follows on from Linden Homes’ St Thomas Park development immediately to the north of the site, will include 60 two, three and four-bedroom houses for private sale. The development is also delivering 40 affordable homes which will be available for local people though low-cost rent or shared ownership.
Fraser Hopes, managing director for Vistry East Midlands, said: “The development will provide a collection of 100 top-quality new-build homes to this charming market town in Cambridgeshire, providing additional choice for those needing a new home in the area.
“And 40 per cent of those properties will be for local people who cannot perhaps afford to buy their own home but want to stay in the area to be close to work or family and friends.
“This project will bring more benefits to the community as jobs will be created locally in construction and sales during the build life of the site, which is scheduled to end in December 2025. Through the S106 agreement and Community Infrastructure Levy we will also be paying over £900,000 to the council to fund improvements to facilities and services in the district.”
Existing trees and hedgerows will be complemented by new planting, and attractive new public open space will be created with footpaths and a children’s play area with natural play features.
Fraser said: “This new neighbourhood has been designed to be a sustainable development where trees, hedges and shrubs will be retained wherever possible with new planting forming a woodland edge along the western edge of the site. This and the provision of further offsite habitat creation will result in a net biodiversity gain.
“There has been a lot of interest in this development since we announced our plans to build here and it is great to start work on the delivery of this project.”
