Ahead of National Gardening Week (2nd May – 8th May), Bovis Homes held a bug hotel building event at its Longhedge Village development in Salisbury.
Visitors learnt how to make an outside home for wildlife and bugs, before getting hands on with the build. The workshop was hosted by James, an expert from landscape gardening company, Blackberry Gardens, and was designed to help the Old Sarum wildlife community – spiders, woodlice, centipedes and all!
Sales consultant Nicola Martin commented: “Now we’re in spring, we thought it would be fun to hold a bug hotel building workshop, which families could get involved in together. It was especially lovely to see the children absorbed in the task and we were really impressed with their finished bug hotels – they looked very welcoming!
“Bovis Homes is committed to helping the local wildlife and we’re also installing some hedgehog highways at the development to enable hedgehogs to roam freely to find food, mates and shelter.”
James from Blackberry Gardens commented: "It was great to see and help the younger residents at Longhedge Village appreciate the wider natural world that can come to focus in their very own garden sanctuaries. We loved designing and building the bug hotels with the children and it really does help to show the benefits of engaging with the green space around developments like this one."
Longhedge Village is a popular development of three, four and five bedroom homes with lots of areas of open space and play parks.
