Bringing the inside out: Create the perfect summer party-space

To help you create a welcoming, memorable, summer space, here are our recommendations to make your garden party-perfect.

Go big and go bar

Nothing will impress your guests more than your very own outdoor bar and they come in all shapes and sizes.

You may want to go big and convert a shed - or build your own structure from recycled pallets. If so, we recommend following these instructions from home improvement retailer, Wickes to help you on your way.

If DIY isn’t your thing, you can create the same vibe by buying something smaller off-the-shelf. We like this nifty little number from B&Q

If space is limited but you still want the bar-effect, look no further than a pop-up option which can be brought indoors if the weather isn’t playing ball. This one from John Lewis has side panels which simply need unfolding and works as a freestanding bar or can be placed next to a wall.

Comfort is key

If you want your guests to linger and the party to go on into the night, you need to have an array of comfy cushions, colourful rugs and cozy blankets to keep them snug.

But don’t make the same mistake we did and think indoor furnishings will work as well outside. There’s a reason retailers like Dunelm offer outdoor seat pads and cushions and it's because they’re waterproof!

You can still get some amazing designs and patterns with loads of different styles to suit your garden’s theme. So whether you opt for eye-catching animal prints or the season’s ‘Amalficore’ trend, which brings the picturesque Amalfi Coast into your garden, you can keep your friends and neighbours comfortable when the sun goes down.

Cocktails and dreams

The perfect summer party doesn’t exist without a delicious drink or three. And whether you want a boozy beverage to boogie to - or prefer to fake it when you make it - there are so many mouth-watering recipes out there, we’re getting thirsty just thinking about it!

We like this strawberry gin and tonic recipe which brings Wimbledon vibes to the garden and can be prepared in the morning to be enjoyed in the afternoon sun. But if rum’s more your thing, look no further than this banana daiquiri which will transport you to a tropical paradise!

For the designated drivers and teetotal guests, consider preparing a batch of this Pimm’s-inspired punch without the booze, which promises to be cool, crisp and citrussy.
